Polymethyl methacrylate or PMMA is also widely referred to as acrylic or PMMA acrylic. It is a rigid thermoplastic that is often used as a replacement for glass thanks to its shatterproof and transparent properties. PMMA goes under a number of trade names including Plexiglass, ACRYLITE, Optix and Perspex.

PMMA is 100% recyclable. PMMA can be reprocessed at dedicated plastic recycling facilities, before being melted and extruded into new items, creating closed-loop supply chains and building a circular economy.
PMMA is a clear thermoplastic that is widely available in pellet, granule or sheet form. Its transparency means that it is has excellent light transmission properties and unlimited colouring options.
These properties alongside others such as surface hardness, high chemical resistance, it being BPA-Free and highly resistant to UV light and weathering make it an ideal polymer for a variety of applications in the lighting, glazing, automotive, construction and medical sectors.
PMMA Acrylic can be found under the Plastic Recycling Number 7, alongside ABS and polycarbonate.
